Slipping and Sliding

I took Jacob to the park today and he had a great time sliding down the big slide.  It was the first time he did it on his own.  The first time he did it, we were both surprised  He slid down so quickly--but he loved it.  After that, he went down the slide at least 20 more times.

I love being a mom and spending time with Jacob.  I am excited that our adoption profile is now up and running.  I hope to be able to take another little one to the park soon as well.

Adoption quote that I love

"Not flesh of my flesh, Nor bone of my bone, But still miraculously my own.  Never forget, not for a minute, You weren’t born under my heart--but in it."

Halloween Fun

For Halloween this year, we took Jacob to a trunk or treat that some friends put together.  Jacob had a good time.  He loves sitting up high on our shoulders where he can get a good view of everything.

Then on Halloween we got together with family that was in town, and family that lives nearby and went trick or treating.  It is fun to have family close by.

Jacob got some good candy.  He was very good about sharing it with us  :)  He did enjoy the Snickers that we gave him, and a plastic toy slinky that one neighbor was handing out.

A little about us

Hello,

Thank you for taking time to visit our blog.  We respect you and the decisions you are facing and making in your life at this time.  Life brings many challenges and we hope that you will be able to successfully navigate through them.

Life has given us the wonderful opportunity to grow our family through the miracle of adoption.  We appreciate you taking the time to get to know us a little bit better.

Our Story

Rob and I grew up in Southern California, 15 minutes away from each other.  We attended rivaling high schools, went to rival colleges in Utah, and lived in neighboring foreign countries—Chile and Argentina.  But we had no idea one another existed.  We both moved back home and ended up meeting at a church activity for singles.  And the rest, as they say, is history.  Shortly after our marriage, we left the beaches of California and moved to cowboy country—Texas.

During our 7 years of marriage we have traveled to Australia, Mexico, and some of the fifty nifty United States like Utah, Nevada, Missouri, Illinois, Florida, and most recently Seattle and Alaska.  We have realized that it doesn’t matter where we go, as long as we’re together we’ll have a great time.

Last year, one of the greatest blessings of our lives occurred.  We were able to adopt our first son.  Becoming parents and starting our family has brought great joy into our lives.

About Jana (written by Rob)

Jana is a wonderful wife with a caring and loving Spirit.  She is a great mother and loves caring for our little boy Jacob.  They do so many fun things together like taking walks, playing “peek a boo” with the curtains, and going swimming.

She is a fun person with a love for adventure.  She has a great time wherever she goes and whatever she does.  She loves to do new things.  Last year Jana thought it would be "fun" to do a 6 mile run through mud and obstacles. Covered in mud from head to toe, she was still smiling as she crossed the finish line.

Jana is kind and is always looking for ways to help others.  She is thoughtful and takes time out of her busy day to help people.

Jana is also very smart and a good teacher.  She loves reading to Jacob and helping him learn new things.  Before we adopted Jacob, Jana worked as a nurse, and cared for many infants and children.  She is very patient with Jacob and knows how to help him when he isn’t feeling well, teething, or just in need of a nap or a snack.  She always seems to know just what to do.  This takes a little pressure off of me!

Jana exhibits the traits of a good mother and her children will love her sense of adventure, and her ability to love, teach, and help them everyday.

About Rob (written by Jana)

Rob is a great father.  Our son Jacob loves him so much.  Rob always makes time for him.  He plays the guitar with him, and it is fun to see Jacob hanging onto the neck of the guitar and bouncing to the music.  When Rob comes home from work he gets down on the ground and plays ball with him or gives him horsey rides until it's time for bed.   I love seeing Jacob’s face light up when he is with his dad.

Rob loves to have fun.  Kids love him.  He is a big kid himself.   When kids are around, you will find Rob with them.  He will be out jumping on the trampoline or playing a game of wiffle ball with them.

Rob has such a kind and generous heart.  He cares about others and takes time to help them.  One example of this is when he spent his Saturday building a fence for a neighbor in need.  He has the ability and desire to help others feel good about who they are.  He is a great husband and friend.

Rob is also a hard worker.  It is important to both of us that I am able to stay home and care for our family.  Thankfully, Rob has been blessed in his career, so I have been able to do this.  I am grateful to Rob for his hard work and dedication in providing for our family.

About Jacob

Jacob is one of the greatest blessings in our lives.  He brings a wonderful spirit into our home.  We love hearing him laugh and seeing him smile as he explores his surrounding.  He loves chasing balls around the house.  Life is a fun adventure for him.

Jacob loves to go on walks and loves to interact with the people and pets we come across.   Always ready to give a hug or a smile to those he comes in contact with, he even tries to play “peek a boo” with a large sign at the local grocery store that depicts a life size boy on it.  He makes friends and helps others feel happy wherever he goes.  We know he will be a good brother and friend to others.

Our Hope & Thoughts on Adoption

After attempting many unsuccessful infertility treatments we decided to focus on adoption in order to pursue our dream of having a family.  This was one of the best decisions we ever made.

Adopting our first son was a humbling and amazing experience.  We have great love and respect for his birth parents.  We know they love him very much, and we will always convey this to him.  We are grateful to them for placing Jacob with us.   We keep in contact with them and enjoy sending them pictures and updates of Jacob.   Our family and friends love Jacob and it is wonderful to see and feel of the love they have for him and for our family.

We look forward to the day when another child can join our family and bring even more love and laughter into our home.  With this adoption, as with our previous one, we plan on maintaining contact with our child’s birthparents and letting our child know how much he or she is loved by them.

Thank you for taking time to read a little bit about us.   We hope you will be blessed as you determine the best path for you.  If you have any questions or want to get to know us better, please contact us.

With love,

Rob and Jana

Hello

Please let us know you stopped by our blog.  We welcome any thoughts or questions you might have about us and or the adoption process.

A poem I like

I read this poem on this blog shortly after we adopted Jacob, and I just loved it.

Poem:
The ladies in my circle

Share their memories
About the pain of childbirth
I felt left out you see

But then we got a call that
A baby had been born
We rushed right out and got her
One sweet September morn

Now I’ve joined the ranks as
A mom with all my friends
But still they tell their stories
The details never end!

But I just sit and listen
With a smile on my face
When they all complain that
They still have extra weight

Do you think that I should tell them
When I get the chance
That right after I got my baby
I could still zip up my pants!?

I remember when I took Jacob to visit Santa, and Santa was confused as to why I was so thin since I had a then 2 month old baby.  I smiled and told him we had been blessed with our son through adoption.  Our son's adoption will always be a part of our family story that we cherish and share with others.
